Mice and Music: Week One

Mice and Music: Week One

Stage one: Planning

For week one we have researched mice prices and habitats and decided how to create a clean living environment for our mice. We have looked at multiple sites for the cheapest mice and  find exactly what they need to live a healthy life. We also decided on the music we will be playing for the mice.

Following is the type of music we will be playing.

  1. Control (no music)
  2. Classical
  3. Heavy Metal
  4. Rap/Hip-hop
  5. White Noise
-Where to find the mice?
Here! We will being buying 5 female fancy mice from Petsmart for they are cheap and are not territorial like the male mice. I will use Tupperware for feeding and drinking bowels.

-Living Habitats?
We will be creating my own using cardboard boxes and bedding.

-Food and Water?
We will be giving our mice tap-water, left-over fruit and vegetables, and store bought rodent food.
-Care?
We will be cleaning the mouses cages daily to avoid smell and make sure that the mice's well being is not influence by anything except the music they are listening to. We will always make sure their water and food bowels are full.
-After?
I plan on giving away most of the mice and keeping one for myself.

Next step?

-We will start to buy and create living habitats and research more about social and living habits of the mice. (by the 3rd)

Mice and Music

Mice and Music: Week One

While listening to your daily dose of heavy metal have you ever looked at your pet mouse and wondered is he as Heavy Metal as me? Our job here at  Mice and Music is to find a relationship between mice and music. "How?" you just asked. WITH SCIENCE! Our plan is to get 5 mice and during the day for a full week blast a certain genre of music into each of their individual cages. We will then preform social interaction tests before, during, and after that week. We will also be studying eating and drinking habits to make sure the mice are healthy and if the music has an effect as well. We will be measuring our success by the Data we receive. If we find correlation between hardcore music and aggressive behaviors then we have found data that supports our hypothesis. We are doing this because ecology interests us  and it seems like a very interesting experiment. Plus who doesn't like mice.
